Abstract

Over the past two decades, the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and Keidanren have emphasized communication competency required for new graduates. This paper investigates and clarifies the communication competency perceived by applicants who had successfully finished job interviews. The current study is a case study based on the semistructured interview data collected from Japanese undergraduate students to investigate how the communication competency was measured. The data were categorized and compared to ENDCORE model (Fujimoto, 2013) and all six communication subskills (self-control, encoding, decoding, self-assertion, accepting others, relationship adjustment) were mentioned by informants.
