Abstract
The objective of the present study is to examine the validity of a back-translated English version of a Japanese communication audit questionnaire which was developed in a previous study. For that purpose, the data that was collected from January to February 2019 through the internet was analyzed. In total, 100 Japanese workers and 100 English-speaking workers in Japan responded to the Japanese and English questionnaires, respectively. Simultaneous Factor Analysis for Several Groups was conducted. The results of the data analysis found that one of the dimensions did not fit the data well, suggesting this dimension cannot be used for cross-cultural comparison studies. For some dimensions, common factor analysis models held for the two groups, and the two groups also had the same regression weights. Other dimensions of organizational communication did not have the same regression weights although the same model could be used. In addition, some fitness indices for other dimensions contradicted each other. Therefore, the findings suggest that for some dimensions both Japanese- and English-version question items can be utilized for comparing the relationships of various organizational behavior and attitudes with organizational communication between Japanese and English-speaking workers, however, the question items of other dimensions need to be improved.
