Abstract
This study examined(1)how 15 working adults change their verbal and nonverbal communication styles in business contexts depending on the language they use, and(2)what impressions their styles make on the observers. The informants were given experimental tasks, in which they reported to their supervisors in Japanese and in English how they solved a problem that arouse in a hypothetical business situation. The communication styles they used were videotaped and analyzed. The results of the research indicate that verbal and nonverbal communication styles used in English are different from those used in Japanese.
