Abstract

It is widely recognized that successful leaders must possess strong presentation skills in order to guide their followers towards challenging goals. With the growing recognition of the vital role played by female leaders, it becomes increasingly important to understand the communication strategies they employ to persuade their audiences. However, there is little research that explores the speech data of female leaders using reliable text analysis and statistical methods. To address this gap, the current study employs a corpus linguistic approach to analyze the speech scripts of female leaders at the Oxford Union and TED Talk events. The female leaders’ corpus is compared to a corpus of male leaders, focusing on frequent words and their clusters. The results of the analysis indicate that there are specific communication strategies that female leaders can use in their persuasive speeches to engage with their audience more effectively.
